Social Media Business StrategiesThere was a time when the only social media platform around was Myspace (insert crickets chirping). The world of social media has drastically changed over the years and it’s no longer just a place for users but a place for businesses. There are over 91 social media platforms but that doesn’t mean you need to be on all off them.

The social media platforms your business should be on are the ones you’re willing to manage. It may seem obvious but in reality people sometimes don’t consider that the more profiles you have the more you have to manage. Imagine what your day would look like if you had to manage 91 different social media platforms. It looks a wee bit bad when a user stumbles upon a social media platform of your business and it hasn’t received a posting in years.

If you don’t have a social media manager and it’s a task you are about to endure, we have some tips for you. Consider these tips for those who are super busy but still want to make their mark in the work of social media:

  • Create one platform at a time
  • Completely optimize the platform
    • This includes address, tagline, business description, custom URL, images, etc.
  • Create a couple months’ worth of postings and schedule in advance
    • Only post once a week until you build a clear strategy

  • Choose your top 5 platforms you want to manage
  • Make sure each profile is totally optimized
    • This includes address, tagline, business description, custom URL, images, etc.
  • Create a social media schedule for each platform
    • Each platform should have a different set of content
    • Consider posting 2x a week per platform until you build momentum
  • Consider changing profile images to create a constant change on the profile
  • Make sure you download the apps to your phone
    • The job of a social media manager never rests and response times are important
      • Talk to your employer about flexible hours so that you’re not overworking during the not so typical 9a-5p window. The goal is to always ‘stay on’ but don’t burn yourself out either.
